Certified Guardian Ad Litems

In situations where child custody is highly disputed between parents, a judge may appoint a lawyer to serve as a guardian ad litem to represent children and their best interests.

County Certifications

Attorney Christopher D. Edmonds is a certified guardian ad litem for the Circuit Court of Cook County and the 18th Judicial Circuit of DuPage County. Attorney Kristin L. Flanagan is a certified guardian ad litem in the 18th Judicial Circuit of DuPage County. These trusted professionals carry out investigations into children’s present well-being and make recommendations to the court for future care, support and development.

Aiding The Court

A guardian ad litem may conduct home studies, have interviews with family members and obtain records from schools and/or medical facilities to provide the court with a complete investigation of the child’s best interests. The parents are responsible for the cost of the guardian ad litem; however, the judge may look at each parent’s financial ability for payments to the guardian ad litem.
